A little history of the united states - James West - Scott Goggins

This book I read out of insecurity for not knowing much about history. Honestly I got what I wanted out of it but man do I wish I had a better memory. If I could retain everything that I read in this book in terms of dates and names then I'd be in such a good spot. O well. It honestly was everything I wanted. I wanted a timeline from conception to current and this delivered. It also threw in some interesting tidbits to entertain the reader such as nickelodeon (the kids channel) originated form movie tickets being a nickel. Basically "nickel theater". So with stuff like that sprinkled in it was cool. I learned a lot and it also made me realize that history is riddled with chaos. People might say 'this is the worst time to be born' but then you could just say well you didn't live through the depression. So no matter what there are always going to be issues. No one could ever agree, all the way back to the founding fathers. Even then they compromised on stuff. They also knew that slavery was going to be the biggest issue the country would face.

The other thing was the presidents. Some of them sucked, some of them were good and man it seems like if we didn't have Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and FDR then as a country we'd be SCREWED. They all played a massive role in our nations success. Teddy Roosevelt would probably be labeled as a massive liberal today but I believe in his first presidency he crushed it in preserving land and giving back to the community like roads and such.

I enjoyed this book, obviously if you know history it doesn't get deep into anything so it might not be good but if you are like me and wanted a high level overview then this was solid.
