The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls - Scott Bowling

I think this book is super similar to the book Brian read called Educated. This book is about the life of Jeannette as she grew up with her insane parents and particular her wild/dangerous/crazy father. This book was very enjoyable. While reading it your problems in your own life seems miniscule for a moment compared to what she is going through. I just don't understand how people can be so coo coo. Her mother was out there but almost in a hippie, ignorant and toxically positive way. Jeannette made it seem like her mother just rolled with whatever was going on as long as she could still do her art. If you complained she always had a way to make it seem not that bad. "We don't have a bathroom" Her mother would say the children in Africa don't even have a roof lol. I just don't understand why she never left her husband. The guy was crazy but she stuck by his side no matter what. They would have a screaming fight and sometimes actually fight, yet when he said it was time to leave she would leave. idk what that means. The father was essentially a conspiracy theorist/drunk/paranoid/egotistical/lying man. He never took responsibility, didn't trust hospitals and abused his family. While there was a lot of bad, some of it was pretty hysterical. The mom loved animals, especially wild animals (you couldn't kill them cause that's not how nature works). At one point they had a buzzard in the house cause it had a hurt wing but apparently wasn't very friendly lol. I also think a lot of their lives were SUPER lucky. They had a lot of near death experiences and they were also very gifted in terms of smarts which ultimately let them escape but had they'd not been so lucky they would've been stuck with their parents forever. I also don't think the parents would've been able to get away with half of this stuff now days with ccps and such but who knows.

I don't think this is an 'all-time' great book but definitely fun to read. I'd recommend it if you are looking in this genre.

Note: I need to start writing these reviews closer to when I finish so i can write a better review.
