Dr. Zhivago - Boris Pasternak - 1957

About 20 hours on audio so chat says this is like 500 pages.

The audio reader was really good. Well done!

People tell me the movie is good. The book is so so. Maybe read it so you can talk to people about it but otherwise you are not missing much. It gives a good perspective on 20th century Russia, poverty in Russia, the plight of women in Russia, and revolution in Russia. Otherwise I did not like the plot that much. I did not like the ending that much. I did not think the book was particularly profound or that it taught some universal truths through the story. Even the protagonist is not really successful at the end. The book is certainly realistic but it is not really uplifting. Maybe I am too used to reading books with a happy ending.

In sum: worth reading for academic purposes but otherwise there are better books out there.

This book is fiction although I assume a lot of the Russian history is real.

Peace out!
