4 thousand weeks - Oliver burkman - Scott Bowling

This book is the coddling mother and some honest truths. All of the other motivational books talking about time hacking and getting things done in less hours are the tough love books. Telling you what you don’t want to hear but sometimes you need to hear. This book is telling you that it’s alright to not wake up at 4:30 in the morning to meditate and then crush workout #1 before starting work before everyone to get ahead. Some might say that its a cop out or it gives you a reason to not try because its not possible (as in finishing all your to do list. It’s endless aka not possible). I can see that train of thought but like everything that im learnings about life its all in moderation. You need this book to remind you that it’s alright to not work until 7pm because we can only be so productive and you shouldn’t feel guilty about it because now you’ll be able to play with your son which is more important that work. But you also need the Brian Tracy (i think his name is) and Goggins to tell you to stop being so soft. You can do more and you can get ahead. If you work super hard and more than everyone else then you can get to where you want to be. You can’t just read this book unfortunately, you need both.
As I write this review, i think I’m feeling more underwhelmed with the book than I initially did. I guess there was a reason it took me a while to read it. It touches on a lot of philosophical things, at a high level, and has some interesting takes in terms of how society is structured and why our 9-5 work days exist but that was just a small section. I think if you are just getting into this stuff and want a more generalized book with less depth but more breadth then it would be nice but for me it was meh. The end has 10 questions to ask yourself with some notes on each. Maybe just look up those online. The coolest part was the title. 4 thousand weeks is all we have. Make the most of it, hint hint don’t use them on this book. Lol
Meh, maybe im over self help books.
Jajaja what are the author’s credentials???
ReplyDeleteHe essentially went on a 'productive kick' and read a bunch of books and everything to ultimately come to this result. So self studied I believe.
