Hunger - Roxane Gay - 2017

Pretty short book. Details the life of a morbidly obese woman with some very bad childhood trauma. Pretty crazy story. I am convinced that if all kids had great lives until age 14 there would be less crime and mental illness in the world. Fourteen is still young, but all of these books I read seem to point to the importance of a good childhood.

I also learned how hard it is to be really really fat. She said she would have bruises on her body and then recall that she sat in a chair that was too small for her. She brought her own seatbelt extender on flights and sometimes bought two seats so she could have more room.

I feel sorry for this lady and am not sure she ever really overcame her childhood trauma. If you can avoid extreme trauma you can also have a happy life.

Not bad but not great.

P.s. I am still reading Into the Wild.
