Spare - Prince Harry - January 10, 2023

Far better than I expected. This is a long book. It is a very honest book. At one point he talks about how he ended up peeing his pants while sailing as an adult because he was afraid to pee in front of the other crew members. You get some good British terminology as well such as biro which means a pen. I read this one but it is available on audio too. I wonder if he actually wrote it.

Apparently Prince Harry is the combination of Agassi, goggins, and me. His dad and his brother seem like jerks. Kate seems like a jerk sometimes too. Harry was often lost mentally but never went to therapy until he was an adult. Basically he never really recovered from the death of his mother. Camilla seems like a jerk too. The queen seemed to have good intentions but was controlled by her aides and the press.

He smoked week, cigarettes, and did coke at some point. He killed 25 people in the war. He spent a lot of time in Botswana. He also got frostbite on his penis (lol). I will try not give any more away.

As far as Markel is concerned it is a bit hard for me to choose sides. If the paparazzi were as bad as he says then perhaps it was smart for them to step away from the royal family. Also he has a deep hatred of paparazzi because they likely caused the death of his mom. It is understandable that he would be a bit paranoid about them. Markle is portrayed as a saint in this book. The people at yoga dont seem to like her that much. I have heard bad press about her as well. Apparently most of the bad press about her is racism and lies (according to this book).

William and Kate come across as a bit stuck up although sometimes they are cool. This is Harry’s side of the story of course. It was weird to see this side though, because I usually have seen positive stories about Kate and William in the press.

Idk so yeah Harry was a pretty lost person with a lot of psychological trauma due to the death of his mother. He is a really tough person and really really did a lot for charity, especially for his fellow soldiers. He was a really good soldier as well. He is not a super book smart person, but he is a smart person and someone who takes action.

If I had to pick sides, I would say Harry and Meg’s argument in this book is compelling enough. I am going to guess the palace was too hierarchical and power hungry and old fashioned. At least this is how the palace is depicted in this book. I will say it was probably a bad look to have a million dollar wedding paid for by the palace and then to take a step back from official royal duties. Although to be fair, in this book they wanted to find some type of common ground but the palace was having none of it and decided to cut them off completely.

I wonder if the press still bothers them so much.

Anyways, Scott, Dad, others, page it!!! This is worth reading. You get a unique perspective on the royal life.
