Convenience Store Women - Sayaka Murata

Disclaimer: I didn't know it was fiction until half way through, I got duped.

I sought this book out because I wanted to read something that would shed some light or give insight into the feeling of being content with a life that might not be 'society normal'. 'Society normal' in my head is married by 30, kids, a job that you are actively trying to get a promotion with or more money, typical home layout. This book touches on this topic but I wouldn't say this book helped give insight into it. So I'm probably biased since that's was the main reason for reading it. Instead this book follows the life of a girl that is lost in life besides her job at a simple convenience store and how that store shapes her life. There is some discussion about how society views her but it's honestly kind of weird the direction the author chose to take. It's a very light book with some quirky stuff related to the work life and simple things of life. If you aren't looking for a deep reason or answer maybe it will be more of a joyous read but for me it kind of fell flat.

Probably wouldn't recommend and thankfully it was short.
