10% Happier Dan Harris
Shout out to Carl for the recommendation. This book is a lot more biography than a typical self help book which I was not anticipating. He's builds the backstory to call back when he starts learning meditation/buddhism but I don't really think I needed all of the context. He seems very driven almost the type of guy that you would say is 'wired differently' so his brain might be a lot more scattered or manic than mine but it seems he really struggles with his mind and temper. This made his journey of meditation/buddhism almost have a adverse reaction to me. He did years and years and years of meditation and studying only to be essentially just as lost. So while this is appealing I'd be worried about if im studying it right or wrong given how complex this all is. I did like that he was a massive skeptic so viewing everything through that lens meant you got the good stuff after he vetted the crap out. Interestingly enough who he interviewed sometimes became more interesting than the meditation but again that's not really the point of the book.
Idk why but this book feels more difficult to review. It's like I set out to read this book to learn how to be better and instead I read about a man who I don't really care about and about a super complex journey of meditation and buddhism that I can't really say I have much desire to do.
I'd say if you want to learn how to meditate or be a buddhist or for some reason want to learn about Dan harris then read this book. Otherwise don't bother
darn it carl lol
