Mere Christianity - C.S Lewis
Recommended book by Carl Riffe. Thanks again.
It was a pretty cool book. I'm currently in an investigation phase of religion which is what has led me to this book. The first half of the book discusses a lot of what Christianity teaches and the benefits and how you should conduct your life to align with the teachings. A lot of it I strongly agreed with but I don't think I'd categorize them as "Religious teachings". They were mostly about how to be a good person and live a healthy life. An interesting piece he touches on is his perspective of least worst to worst actions and surprisingly sex or sex before marriage was low on the pole but being too Prideful was the ultimate sin. Again with a lot of these books it's one man's interpretation of the bible or a 'source of truth'.
The main appeal for me was he seems to be an extremely logical person. So he uses reason to believe certain things. This resonates with me a lot cause it kind of has to make sense for me to believe and believing in a pie in the sky thing is hard. So hearing it from such a logic and scientific perspective was cool.
The things I don't think I cared for and it's hard to avoid this with such a book but some arguments seemed almost too convenient. So it was that and the second half of the book was about theology. He does warn you not to continue if you don't have interest but it's weird to not finish a book also. So yeah that last half was extremely confusing and not that great.
Interesting book, nothing crazy but if you are into this category of reading it might be worth checking out.
