Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief - Lawrence Wright

I forgot I read this until someone on the sort was talking about L Ron Hubbard (thanks malley). I read this like 5 years ago but still remember a little bit. That means it is a good book lol. You learn about L Ron Hubbard, the founder of scientology. I think he went to GW which is right across the street from where I used to work lol. You learn about some crazy time on a ship when they were looking for treasure that they never found (surprise, surprise, maybe I should start my own religion). You learn about the poor treatment of many of the members except the "celebrities" (cruise, travolta). The celebrities have/had handlers that give them a "different" better experience of scientology. I think greta van sustern is also mentioned as a scientologist in this book. My favorite part of the book was when the IRS came after scientology. The scientologists used inappropriate scare tactics to intimidate the IRS and it worked!!!!! What they did was wrong but I could not/still cannot believe they fought the IRS and won. lol I thought the IRS was omnipotent. lol

Anyways L Ron Hubbard is a kook (imo) think jim jones, david koresh. Scientology is a scam (imo). Anyways this book is good.

page it!!!! (and learn something new!!)

I think the book said there are many scientologists in clearwater florida (at least at the time of writing) (that is a great beach, i suggest to go there for purposes other than scientology). I believe they also have an hq in california. david miscavige is the current boss (or at least at the time this book was published).
