The Way of the Runner - Adharanand Finn

This book gives a good look at running culture in Japan. Apparently running is a huge deal in Japan. Honestly I am not sure if it is as big a deal as this book makes it out to be or not. Apparently the Ekiden (like a long relay race) is very popular and some of the university races are like national holidays. The main thing I learned from this book are that the Japanese have an advantage because they sit on the floor. Now I sit on the floor all the time (and my family thinks it's crazy) lol. Also the Japanese culture is disciplined and there is a lot of respect for elders. I already knew this though. Sometimes it is annoying to hear the author talk about himself too much. But, kudos to the author for going to Japan to see how it really is. I think I also learned that the Japanese run on concrete too much which causes injury. I also learned that some of the "slower" (they are still super fast) east africans come to Japan to run and get sponsored. I did not know this.

page it! if you like running (however, the frank shorter book is the best running book that I have read, followed by deena, and then born to run).
