no hay silencio que no termine - even silence has an end - ingrid betancourt

Super good. Super tough to read at times. Good look at brainwashing of youth and group psychology while imprisoned. Their capture was partly her fault. Good look at the power of being able to communicate if even while imprisoned. Heartbreaking at times. Ingrid was running for president of colombia when she was captured by las farc (a terrorist group that dominates a lot of the jungled region of the country). I forget how long she was captured but I think it was around 5 years. The ending is also super cool. God bless ingrid. She had it rough. I think she lives in france now. This is top 20 for sure. Could be top 10 but probably have to see what scott thinks about it. The problem is there are too many unbelievable stories to pick from at this point. You also get a good understanding of colombia and its politics as you likely have none when starting out. At one point there were Americans in her camp (they were shot down when spraying fields in colombia to stop drug production). Ingrid forms a close relationship with one (mark i think?). Apparently the americans have written a book that rejects some of what Ingrid says. I have not read it but found this interesting.

Ingrid's book is definitely in english too if you want to read it!

page it!

p.s. I am not sure of the current status of las farc. I believe there was a peace deal near the end of the 2010 decade but as of right now I am not sure.

p.s.s. i hate the title in spanish. I am not sure the original language of the text. I know ingrid speaks spanish and french and I assume she speaks english as well. It is a double negative which is correct I guess but sounds weird to me as a spanish as a second language person. I read this book in spanish and really enjoyed it!
