mas alla del invierno - in the midst of winter - isabel allende
Mas alla del invierno means "more than winter" to me which is a better title in my opinion. What I am saying is that I do not like the official english translation of the title because I feel it takes away some of the meaning. Or maybe she wrote this in english first idk. Anyways, I like allende. I think she is one of the most famous modern latin authors. She is chilean. House of spirits was ok (see my review). Apparently she always starts her books on a certain day in january. I forget which, but I found this fact interesting. This book has a good suspenseful plot and is part love story. It also makes some commentary about the life of immigrants in the U.S. (or at least i think it does). Not the best book ever but good. Basically an immigrant housekeeper gets caught up in her boss's crime ring inadvertently and two professors kind of help her out.
page it! if you are snowed it. I read this in spanish but you can find it in english for sure. If you read it in spanish, it is easy reading. Some spanish books are hard.
