How to Win friends and influence people - Dale Carnegie 1936 (a classic worth reading) (bb)
This is a classic worth reading. It is from way way back in 36 (did they even write books back then?!!?? lol jk jk) I do not like it as much as Scott (see his review) but it is still good. I think I was reading this while flying somewhere. Here are my takeaways from Carnegie's list, meaning what I think the most important parts of the book are (from my human memory of 3 years ago lol). The most important thing is to make others feel important. You should always ask other people about their life (family, pets, anything you can think of). You should do this even if you are faking (my view not his). I promise it will help you. The second most important thing (my view) from his list is to always say other people's names. In the book he says something like nothing is so sweet sounding to someone else than their name. This is 1000% correct. I always ask people their name and try to remember their name if I can. This is super important. The last most important thing I remember is never criticize. This is easier said than done, but for example I poured the wine wrong at the restaurant the other day. My boss said hey you did that wrong and this is how you should do it and it's ok then pounded it with me. Carnegie maybe would say not to criticize at all (you will have to read that chapter for the specifics because I do not remember) but to me something like what my boss did is exactly right. You correct and motivate at the same time. Also I think the old (circa 1930s) english and the references from that time are super funny in this book although I don't remember completely. You may come across a cool word such as gumption.
page it! and gain friends lol a classic worth reading
p.s. the author/publisher had no idea this book would sell so well (like a lot of books, see zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance for example) so if you have a book idea just write it! you may surprise yourself and end up rich/famous/both!!!!
