touching the void - joe simpson (bb)
A must read and in my top 20! This guy has accomplished something along the lines of (probably harder than) David Goggins. He did not do it on purpose. He falls off the mountain in rural peru. He manages to get out of the crevice he falls into. Then he walks many miles with a broken leg. He almost dies of lack of water. It is very interesting that when he was hobbling he says he did far better when he picked a spot in the distance to walk to and set a timer for himself. Goal setting is important. The whole thing was so traumatic that when they went back years later to shoot the movie he got super nervous. Just being back there made him nervous. He also got lucky because his friend thought he was dead and could have left rural peru before he got back to camp. Then he would have almost certainly died. His friend never should have cut the line either though (my opinion). I do not know how he was able to find the camp but I guess he just remembered the way up.
A really really good book about digging deep and mountain climbing. Few people will experience something as hard as this and survive in their lifetimes. It is easy/fun reading and has input from his friend which is cool too.
page it for sure!!! (this book will make you say wow over and over! you will become stronger because of it!!)
p.s. Apparently the author wrote other books and did some speaking about this experience. I guess that is a good way to monetize his survival experience jajajajaj.
