Simply put this book provides the academic data to back up the Goggins books. It reads like a research paper at times (which is annoying) and you will have to stop and think about what you just read at times. This is a must read for anyone who takes self improvement seriously.

I especially enjoyed the part about deliberate practice.

I especially enjoyed the part about positive thought and having a growth mindset.

The bottom line of the book is this: you will never be michael phelps (for example) but if you try really hard at swimming (or anything, math, running, etc.) you can become good (even if you aren't very good when you start out). This is because effort makes much more of a difference than you think.

Finally, the author has a ted talk on her research that is worth watching.
