Dataclysm - Christina Rudder

 


This book is about one of the founders of OkCupid who basically loves data and what kind of story it can tell. He uses the data throughout the book to discuss his findings and also about some things that we already know are human nature but also discuss on a lot of the hypocrisy’s of human nature. It’s a very entertaining book since while yes this is a small subset I think reflects a lot on the larger scale of human nature. Some of the topics are very comical since it has to do with people and their relationships such as the most common words on an Asian person dating profile is ‘tall for an Asian’ lol. I enjoyed this read, it wasn’t anything crazy but does peak into the raw unedited truths of human nature which if you’ve read my other reviews is an interest of mine.


Good enjoyable read.

  If this was basketball I would shoot a 3 cuz I need a heat check jajaja. Much better than moneyball. Not as good as the big short. He has another book called going infinite that is about crypto that I want to read but I cannot find it on Libby for some reason.  The main thing I learned from this book is that who you know really matters and that having money really matters. These people got Michael out of the hood by accident and used their vast wealth and connections to help him make it to the nfl. Without their help he could have easily ended up dead or flipping burgers.  This book was a bit mean at times. Man’s Guide to Women - Gottman and Gottman - 2016

  I can’t say it is a good sign that I am reading this book. Jajajaj It is an embarrassment mostly but anyways knowledge is knowledge right? Jaja I can’t say this book was super helpful or matched my experience really. In some cases I disagree with the authors.  I think the main surprise of this book is the overall portrayal of women. I thought since it is 2026 women want to pay for the first date and aren’t emotional and don’t want to hold your hand and and don’t care if you hold the door for them and want to take control in sex and other relationship matters. This is what I get from watching tv and hearing about women wanting more equality. But this book basically says the opposite based on their studies: essentially that men have the power in the relationship and that women are fragile and need to be held and listened to. Choose Strong - Sally McRae - 2023

  Well where to begin? Thank you to Rachel Leach (soon to be Bowling??? :) jajajajajajaj lol) for gifting me this book. Also no thanks to Rachel Leach for giving me a hard copy book (jajajaj). Next time just tell me the title and I will get it digitally (jajajaj). I will send you the bill for my optometry appointment shortly.  Anyways, short book easy reading, probably the second saddest book I have ever read (see my review of What Made Maddy Run for the saddest). I do not really think the author is a great writer especially after reading Krakauer, Hanna, Lewis, and Larson, but hey I have written exactly 0 books so good for her for writing her story. There is going to be a second book (or maybe it is out already, I will have to check with Rachel) because this book only covers the first 18 (terrible) years of her life.
